Martin Luther King Jr. -reading response #1
I think it sucks that MLKJ sucks up to the clergy, even thought he is one himself. We shouldn't descrimante against other people or judge everyone, we should all be treated equal. I thought it was really cool that MLKJ was patient with the whole ordeal. He didn't go burning down buildings or shoot someone, he tried to get rid of segregation by simply doing it the politicial way; by holding speeches and talking in crowds in the streets. Nothing major, he could have done a bomb threat, but he knew that wouldn't get them anywhere. Overall I think MLKJ is a very classy man with a lot of self respect. We shouldn't be treated different no matter the sercumstances: black, white, woman, man, retarted, or smart; it really isn't necessary. If someone is mean to another person, they will get theirs later in this lifetime or the next.

Is it sucking up to his fellow clergymen or is it knowing his audience and knowing if he didn't show respect they would never take him seriously? They would see him as just another angry black man not as an equal. I thought the point you made about the peace was very true though.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the thought that Martin Luther King Jr. is a classy man but I don't think he was "sucking up" to the clergymen.
ReplyDeleteIn a way he was proving to be the better person by writing a letter (even though he was in jail)that was respectuful. And that is why I agree with you that he was a classy man.
If someone is underneath another person as MLk is in this point of his life you have to suck up to people above you. If you were trying to get a job at a store you would want to suck up to whoever is interviewing you. Alothough we shouldn't discriminate against others it still happens in everyday life.
